Roger announces new advisory boards aimed at solving real world business challenges for carriers, shippers and brokers. https://rogerthat.com/roger-announces-new-advisory-boards/ Wed, 04 Jan 2023 17:02:14 +0000 https://rogerthat.com/?p=6818

Industry news

Roger announces new advisory boards aimed at solving real world business challenges for carriers, shippers and brokers.

The dry bulk transportation industry has had to face multiple challenges in the last few years. Carriers, shippers and brokers are under intense pressure to do more with less. This heightened demand has changed the way our industry operates and many of the processes we have relied on for so long are outdated and inefficient.

The industry needed a technology partner to solve real problems and move businesses forward. That’s how Roger began – with a room full of carriers who knew something had to change. We brought together some of the industry’s most knowledgeable carriers, shippers and brokers to tackle every stage of the hauling process.

We strive to always be one step ahead. To listen to those who work in and know the industry best.

And that’s what we’re committed to doing today.

Roger is excited to officially announce its new advisory boards that will work towards bringing greater efficiency and profitability to dry bulk transportation businesses. Each board will focus on identifying real challenges faced by carriers, shippers and brokers.

The first of these, the Carrier Advisory Board, had its first meeting on December 1 and will meet quarterly. Consisting of businesses that range from small owner-operators to larger carriers, the board will discuss the state of the industry and design and test new products before they go to market.

“By identifying carrier specific pain points, we have the opportunity to create solutions that actually solve problems with the help of those who know them best,” said Jay Weber, General Manager of Commercial at Roger.

In 2023, Roger will kick off additional advisory boards that will focus on other neglected areas within the industry. These boards will consist primarily of members who are making decisions across all business levels.

Although each board will focus on its respective expertise, all members will come together throughout the year to discuss solutions that support the industry.

“The success of Roger and the industry these boards represent is dependent on each other,” said Weber. “Our goal is to create technology solutions that will prepare our industry for new challenges and what’s coming next.”

Need for compliant carriers made indisputable by national trucking shortage https://rogerthat.com/finding-compliant-carriers-made-easy-with-onramp/ Thu, 06 Oct 2022 21:06:51 +0000 https://rogerthat.com/?p=5412

Need for compliant carriers made indisputable by national trucking shortage
Written by: Mara Jorgensen

Since 2020, the world has seen intense pressure on the supply chain industry, making it even more difficult for grain shippers to find reliable and compliant drivers. Carriers are in high demand and expected to react to loads quickly.

National agencies, such as the American Trucking Association, agree that there is a sense of urgency to help expedite the constraints on carriers. Drivers and trucks are in short supply and many previously employed carriers are strained by high fuel prices and high cost of maintenances. An FMCSA Compliance and Safety Data Statistics report shared that on July 5, 2022, there were 619,243 carriers with dangerous driving BASIC scores. Of those carriers, 41,867 had alerts and were over threshold. By tapping the expertise of five major bulk trucking shippers, we found that roughly 70% of received certificates of insurance were non-compliant or erroneous upon first review.

With this high of risk, we have a huge opportunity as an industry to help with bulk haul compliance. That’s why we took some of the biggest bulk hauling sourcing headaches (W-9 hauling contracts, Certificates of Insurance, and hauling agreements – just to name a few) away from shippers and created a simple onboarding and compliance tool called Roger onRamp. The tool quickly connects shippers with pre-vetted carriers that meet their hauling requirements. It automates carrier compliance by organizing Hauling Contracts, Certificates of Insurance and safety ratings to reduce overall risk and help shippers seal deals faster. Carriers can simply create a profile and upload all their required documents to one platform (partnered with myCOI). This reduces the amount of redundant paperwork carriers endure when working with several shippers.

Roger onRamp, partnered with myCOI, automates the process of insurance compliance by guaranteeing paperwork is up to date and fully compliant. In addition, Roger onRamp provides updated safety statuses via the FMCSA twice a month. This process seamlessly integrates with each new carrier added, allowing shippers to identify non-compliant carriers and reducing overall risk. With nearly 10% of bulk haul carriers on Roger, many have already felt the benefits of Roger onRamp in their compliance management efforts. Shippers who use the platform, for example, continue to reduce risk and save on insurance premiums all while increasing the number of compliant carriers they have onboard.

At Roger, our team works hard to find innovative solutions to drive your business forward and leave inefficiencies in the dust. We’ve only touched the surface and we’re not stopping there.

The rise and fall of fuel prices. Here’s how Roger helps. https://rogerthat.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-fuel-prices/ Wed, 14 Sep 2022 19:59:43 +0000 https://rogerthat.com/?p=5342

The rise and fall of fuel prices. Here's how Roger helps.

Written by: Jay Weber

The constant rise of fuel prices since December 2021 will have a lasting effect on the freight trucking industry.

In July, a gallon of diesel in the US cost an average of $5.49. Although it’s $2 more than where we were this time in 2021, we are happy to see a pause in what seemed like a never-ending growth spurt. With the unstable economy and ongoing worldwide freight issues, our industry has seen a staggering average increase of more than 7% in fuel prices month over month since December 2021. The highest jump being a 23% increase in diesel prices between February 2022 and March 2022, as reported by Statista.

Although the industry had a sigh of relief at the pump last month, we know shippers, carriers, and brokers are still on edge wondering if prices will continue to rise or come back down. Especially those who have already been struggling with fuel prices in an industry where rates have remained relatively stagnant for years.

As we all continue to evaluate the market, carriers and brokers are becoming even more aware of the costs associated with each mile of their haul – making them hesitant to commit to future hauls. To offset this concern, carriers are accepting shorter hauls closer to home and are raising their rates to cover increased business costs.

As a national leader in providing innovative technology solutions for dry bulk trucking, we are constantly monitoring the state of the industry. In doing so, we found that technology continues to play a major role in boosting profit for shippers, carriers and brokers. That’s why we built Roger IQ and Roger Interchange: two products designed to help make quicker and more informed business decisions.

Roger IQ shows how your business is performing in real-time, as well as historically. Unlike other products, shippers, carriers, and brokers can benefit from Roger IQ’s AI and machine learning, allowing you to take actions that will benefit your bottom line immediately. Carriers and brokers can compare their current and previous activity to the market so you can make informed and profitable business decisions. Additionally, its insight on carrier and shipper performance allows you to take a deeper look into your business’s performance. Keeping your bottom dollar top of mind.

Roger Interchange, on the other hand, provides structure to your current business processes. Repetitive workflows and necessary communication should never interfere with your daily goals. That’s why Roger Interchange connects the industry’s top shippers, carriers and brokers together to communicate, negotiate, and send confirmations through a structured environment. With a digital audit trail, your team can better navigate through daily problem-solving situations and review comprehensive data points to keep your business moving.

We continue to build upon our solutions with the goal of making the end-to-end transport process more efficient than ever before. By giving you a tool to manage your day-to-day, you can proactively focus on building your business, giving you an upper hand in the competitive market. From clear and actionable analytics to AI and machine learning– we’ve got a solution.

Say hello to the future of compliance management with Roger onRamp

Roger onRamp™ helps shippers and carriers alike reduce risk and simplify processes to keep you and your team moving.

OMAHA, Neb., May 31, 2022 – In a crash statistics report released by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations FMCSA, the settlement cost of a large truck accident with one person injured averaged $148,279 in 2021. The cost with accidents involving a fatality started at $3 Million. And with a staggering 180,316 large truck accidents reported in 2021, there’s a lot to be said about the true cost of poor risk management and overlooked compliance measures in the dry bulk shipping industry.

In a market that is laser-focused on getting from point A to point B, shippers and carriers alike depend on one another to move products safely and keep each haul fully compliant. Today, this manual process involves a lot of specific paperwork between several stakeholders allowing too much room for error. Many companies have multiple systems and no real time way to tell if a carrier is compliant. This outdated process has carriers struggling to keep insurance certificates and other necessary files up to date. Ultimately leaving shippers at higher risk of using non-compliant carriers.

It’s obvious that there is room for improvement when it comes to risk and compliance management in the movement of bulk products. But the unfortunate truth of the matter is that risk management and carrier compliance are not always top of mind for everyone involved in the day-to-day business. When carriers are required to have consistent communication on the job and deliver loads safely it’s nearly impossible to expect that the additional responsibilities of tedious insurance measures be completed correctly and on time. Especially when insurance and safety documentation are due on the initial start date with a shipper, rather than on a fiscal or calendar year rotation. Not only does this make working with multiple shippers difficult, it also substantially increases the risk for all parties involved.

Which leads us to the million-dollar question: Why isn’t there an easier way to improve risk management and compliance in bulk freight trucking?

That’s where Roger onRamp comes in.

Realizing more can be done to capture, store and manage important insurance and contract information, Roger developed onRamp as a vital partner to the dry bulk transport industry. This innovative tool helps shippers and carriers reduce risk and accelerate compliance processes. Its advanced technology verifies insurance qualifications, safety requirements, streamlines hauling contracts with e-sign capabilities, automatically monitors COIs by providing notifications upon renewals and proactively connects with insurers to guarantee providers are insured and up to date. That way carriers and shippers can focus on what they do best.

More connections and less paperwork? Roger that.

Accidents are unavoidable but streamlining processes and limiting risk shouldn’t have to be.

Roger onRamp™ Drives the Risk out of Compliance for Shippers, Carriers https://rogerthat.com/roger-onramp-drives-the-risk-out-of-compliance-for-shippers-carriers/ Thu, 10 Mar 2022 15:38:25 +0000 https://rogerthat.com/?p=5088

OMAHA, Neb., March 10, 2022 – Shippers and carriers can reduce risk, manage compliance, and expand their business networks thanks to a revolutionary product called Roger onRamp™. For shippers, Roger onRamp quickly and easily ensures their carriers have met established safety and insurance requirements and have signed the shipper hauling contract. For carriers, Roger onRamp provides the ability to set up a digital profile and connect all insurance and business documents in one place, at one time. The result is a faster shipping and compliance process with less risk – eliminating the important but outdated process of manually verifying business and insurance documents.

Roger onRamp, a new product from bulk freight technology innovator Roger® is available today for all shippers and carriers across the United States, including dry bulk, aggregate, flatbed, liquid and more. The compliance tracking system speeds up a once tedious process and reduces risk for shippers.

Here’s how it works:

  • Carriers set up a single Roger onRamp profile with their relevant company information and connect the account with their insurance agent. The insurance agent uploads a current certificate of insurance (COI).
  • Shippers who have an existing relationship with that carrier can access the information, eliminating the need to print, fax, file, and track the documents.
  • Carrier accounts are set up to monitor for annual renewal dates, automatically notifying the carrier’s insurance agents when renewed COIs are needed.
  • Shippers and carriers can easily find new partners through Roger onRamp that meet their shipping and compliance requirements. If both parties agree to a connection, onboarding is effectively complete.
  • New hauling contracts can be e-signed by both shippers and carriers, expediting the process so they can start hauling faster.

Shippers and carriers alike say this product solves many headaches. A group of Roger customers have been testing Roger onRamp for the past few months and say the software decreases the amount of time spent on paperwork, reduces their risks of working with carriers who have fallen out of compliance, and allows them to easily make new, quick connections, speeding up business.

That’s exactly what Roger onRamp was designed to do. “This compliance work has been done manually for so long, which cost both shippers and carriers time and money,” said Roger Product Owner Mara Jorgensen. “Roger onRamp makes everything easy, standardized and automated. It’s a perfect solution for both shippers and carriers.”

Roger’s Technology Is Changing the Way the Bulk Freight Industry Does Business

Innovative technology solution streamlines and digitizes the dry bulk truck freight process by delivering efficiencies across the supply chain—from planning to payment—in one universal tool

OMAHA, Neb., March 9, 2021 Roger®, an independent technology solution for the dry bulk freight industry, announced today that it has opened its ecosystem to give all dry bulk truck shippers and carriers access to its suite of cost-saving, revenue-generating products. Roger offers efficiency-focused features like smart deal-making, digital ticket capture, integrated settlement and payment submission, and hyperaccurate GPS load tracking.

Roger was developed with feedback from more than 500 trucking companies and industry leaders in dry bulk freight shipping. While Roger is less than a year old, more than 150,000 loads have been completed using Roger’s technologies, with nearly 500 carriers hauling more than 45 different commodities for major dry bulk shippers like The Andersons Inc., Cargill, Consolidated Grain and Barge Co., Koch Fertilizer and The Scoular Company. Roger is also backed by one of the industry’s leading agricultural technology companies, Bushel.

“Shipper and carrier relationships are important in our business,” said Jeff Schreiner, CEO of Roger. “The key to success is being able to build additional business relationships and then use data-driven insights to make informed and profitable business decisions. Roger does just that. It is a neutral and secure solution that uses technology to organize data, create efficiencies, and connect shippers and carriers in a new, more transparent way.”

Current bulk freight processes are fragmented and manual, resulting in lost productivity and revenue potential. Roger’s technologies aim to solve some of the industry’s biggest challenges.

“Roger has improved our communication with carriers and partners,” said Jeannie Frana, Global Process Owner, Cargill Transportation and Logistics. “We’ve been able to reduce phone calls, cut back on paperwork and pay our carriers faster. It’s a win-win for Cargill and our carriers.”

Roger Technology Solutions

Roger is a single, universal technology solution that can integrate with existing systems and be used across the entire industry, giving shippers and carriers tools that can be used together or individually:

Roger onRamp creates a single profile to store insurance, DOT, license and other certifications, which is immediately available to shippers when a new connection is made, reducing the time it takes to onboard a new carrier.

Roger Deals is a hub for all available loads and capacity. Carriers and shippers can receive multiple bids, accept an offer in one click and use trackable negotiation tools to help make the best business decisions.

Roger Hauls gives shippers the ability to dispatch loads directly to carriers within the app, along with all details regarding the haul. Carriers can take a photo of origin and destination tickets and upload directly into Roger, eliminating the need for paper.

Roger Locators puts an end to “Where’s my truck?” calls, giving shippers real-time map views of truck locations and ETAs, while Google Maps integration gives carriers origin and destination locations, along with turn-by-turn guidance and route mapping.

Roger IQ helps produce a real-time shipping status dashboard that offers a visual into how business is performing. With aggregate industry data, Roger provides business- and industry-level analytics for actionable insights.

Roger Transmissions offers direct integration with accounting systems (major ERPs and QuickBooks), transport management software and fleet management systems for both shippers and carriers.

Roger Exchanges eliminates the need for paper invoices, so once a haul is complete, carriers can request payment directly from shippers within the app. Paper invoicing and waiting for payments are a thing of the past.

“The visibility of our carrier’s location allows us to make real-time logistical decisions,” said Ryan Napier, Grain Merchandiser, Scoular, “while the paperless billing streamlined the flow of information from carriers to customers, increased our payment turnaround and enabled almost real-time information flow to our customers.”

Napier added, “The level of transparency and trust Roger offers is unlike any other platform we’ve used. Our customers can instantly see the location of their load and the information we have on the load; see as soon as a truck scales out of our facility, when it scales into the destination and when the load is delivered. It has improved the level of customer service we can provide tremendously.”
